STAND Up to Bullying
October is National Bully Awareness Month.
While bullying is obviously not a one month of the year event, we gladly take the month and shine the spotlight on a subject that fires us up. We recognize that there has always been and always will be bullies, our job is to equip people with the skills they need to best deal with it. In training our students, one of our biggest goals is to equip them with the confidence they need to never be a target. We use the acronym STAND when teaching our students, driving home the point to STAND Up to Bullying.
S- Stand with confidence, make eye contract, interact with others.
T- Tell someone if you are being bullied.
A- Avoid the bully, avoid the circumstance.
N- Negotiate, don’t be afraid to speak up and use your voice
D- Defend yourself if you have no other choice.
Always remember that ‘hurt people, hurt people’. We need to learn to STAND up to bullies while having compassion. Rarely does someone act out if they are not already a victim.
Stay tuned all month long as we put the focus on Bullying and do our part to STAND Up.
